500 Goodie Bags were distributed. They were filled with donations from individual members of the Captain Charles Croxall DAR Chapter and the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter. November 11, 2011: The Color Guard visited the Robson Ranch and the University of Texas Dallas for Veteran's Day events.

The SAR Color Guard participated in the regional Veterans Day observance at the Bonham High School Gym in Bonham, Texas. Here is a slide show of the event by Dan Reed. Don Babbs and two members of the Lone Star Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Dallas, Texas who were the Color Guard.

October 13, 2011: The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter assisted at the the Bonham VA Fall Carnival. The chapter provided desserts and helped with serving the residents and patients.

Thursday, October 13, 2011, the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter participated in the Fall Carnival held at the VA North Texas Health Care Facility in Bonham, Texas. Wendell Edwards and John Greer took a variety of desserts provided by members of the chapter and helped with serving and assisting the Residents and Patients.

The Chapter worked with other veterans organizations in this joint effort. Pictured are John Greer and Wendell Edwards with a representative from the VFW in Bonham.

September 13, 2011: Compatriots John Greer and Paul Fisk attended the Royse City Council Meeting and presented awards to two Police Officers for Heroism.

Compatriots John Greer (coonskin cap) and Paul Fisk presented a Heroism award to Police Officer Allan Potter.

John Greer and Paul Fisk presented a Heroism award to Mr. Jerrell Baley on behalf of his son Police Officer Michael Baley who was fighting a grass fire threatening Royse City at that very moment.

Here is Royse City Police Chief Carl L. Alsabrook's description of the heroic event:

"On Aug 21, 2010 at approximately 9:30pm Officers Michael Baley and Alan Potter played a pivotal role in reviving a patient at the Royse City Health & Rehabilitation Center. Upon their arrival with Rockwall County paramedics, Officer Baley assisted with the administration of oxygen as Officer Potter performed active CPR on a patient at the center, allowing paramedics to concern themselves with other tasks. The patient was brought back, stabilized and transported."

"It was the judgment of the medical staff that through the heroic actions of Officers Baley and Potter, the patient was able to be revived and quickly returned to a stable medical state."

"It is my opinion that Officers Baley and Potter, working together as a team, saved a human life."

July 8-13, 2011: Jim Johnson and John Greer attended the National Congress in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Jim Johnson took this picture of John Greer at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in December, 2010. It was entered in the National Congress photo contest and won. Jim won a $1000 and Jim and John went to the Congress to accept the award.

Here is the story that was submitted to the "The Texas Compatriot" Newsletter:

"TEXAS SOCIETY MEMBER RECEIVES BOND AWARD"

"Dr. James Jefferson Johnson, Jr. recently received the Thomas Jefferson Bond Award from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in the amount of $1000 for the best photograph depicting the Spirit of Patriotism for 2010-2011. The award was presented by NSSAR President General David Sympson at the Monday Night Recognition Ceremony July 11th during the 121st National Congress in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Compatriot John Greer, the "frontiersman" in the photograph, accompanied Compatriot Johnson to receive the award. The photograph was taken by Dr. Johnson on December 6th, 2010, at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery where Compatriots Johnson and Greer were participants in the Honor Guard for PFC Devon Harris, KIA."

June 14, 2011: The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter, TXSSAR, conducted the Flag Day Program at the Hunt County Fair. Those from Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter who attended and participated were James Adams, Marc Coker, Robert Davis, Larry Freeman, John Greer and Wendell Edwards.

Ambassador Fletcher Warren member Robert Davis handed out programs and flags to those in attendance.

The participants on the platform were:

Hunt County Court of Law Judge Andrew Bench gave a history of Flag Day and presented a Proclamation from Hunt County.

James Narramore aka "The Texas Whistler" presented the song "You're A Grand Old Flag".

(Lady in Red) Donna Turner Chaplain Greenville Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks presented history of the Flag.

Wendell Edwards Presiding and Greenville Assistant Police Chief Scott Smith presented a Proclamation from the City of Greenville.

Ambassador Fletcher Warren member Marc Coker gave the benediction.

Wendell Edwards and John Greer counted down to 6:00 pm for the "Pause of the Pledge" across America. John Greer led the Pledge of Allegiance at precisely 6:00 pm to coinside with 7:00 pm Baltimore (Ft. McHenry) time.

Robert Davis set up the chapter's flags and helped pass out programs and flags to participants.

On June 11, 2011 the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter participated in the Flag Retirement Ceremony conducted by the Captain William Barron Chapter of Tyler, Texas.

June 3, 2011: The ceremony dedicated a Collin County marker for William Murphy for whom the city of Murphy was named. Several descendants of Mr. Murphy were present for the dedication. The ceremony was presented by members of the Collin County Historical Commission.

Pvt. Andy Krippner funeral

June 3, 2011: The SAR Color Guard attended the funeral for Pvt. Andy Krippner from Garland. He was killed after being in Afghanistan for only 6 weeks. His father is the Dallas Police Chaplain. Here is a slide show of the event.

May 21, 2011: A flag retirement ceremony was held at Gabe Nesbit park in McKinney on Armed Forces Day.

Here is a description of the event in SAR Compatriot Dan Reed's own words:

"May 21st Armed Forces Day the McKinney Chapter # 63 with help from Denton Chapter #23 , Plano Chapter #37, and the Heart of Texas Chapter #26 along with the DAV and VFW of McKinney had a Flag Retirement program. The C. A. R. and local DAR Chapters also helped organize the program."

"There was a symbolic retirement of one Flag. We have over 400 Flags to retire. The local VFW will dispose of these Flags."

"The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter also participated but understand that they have already qualified for the Partners in Patriotism Certificate. One of the beneficial things our Chapters in the North Texas area does is combined programs. Except for Plano these are smaller Chapters. Separate they struggle, but combined they make a difference."

"There was over 75 in attendance at the retirement program."

May 7, 2011: The Color Guard presented the colors at the Plano East JROTC Awards Ceremony. Compatriots participating in uniform were Alan Roach JROTC VP, Howard Roach, Bill Neisel, Bob Flagg, Don Babbs, Ann and Don Sielert, and Carolyn and Dan Reed. They represented the Ambassador Fletcher Warren, Denton, McKinney and Plano chapters. The Color Guard Unit was seated up front and together! LTC (Ret.) Aikens, Military Advisor of the Plano East JROTC Panther Battalion, gave special recognition to our group and many kind words for our support in Plano.

April 30, 2011: The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter #43, TXSSAR presented a Genealogy Research Workshop at the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville on Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Total attendence was approximately 25 persons and one completed SAR Application was received by Registrar Paul Fisk at the end of the meeting.

TXSSAR Archives Awards Presented at UNT
April 15, 2011: Members from the Plano, McKinney, Dallas, Ambassador Fletcher Warren and Denton Chapter were joined by Bill Marrs, State President and LarryStephens State Historian at the North Texas State University to present several awards in conjunction with the TXSSAR archives.

The Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution (TXSSAR), a lineage society based on the tenets of education, genealogy and patriotism, presented Archives Awards to the University of North Texas Libraries and Library staff at 2 P.M. Friday, April 15, 2011. The event was held in the Forum of the Willis Library on the University of North Texas campus in Denton, Texas.

Larry Stevens TXSSAR Historian introduced William Marrs (UNT Class of '63), President of the Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, who presented a "Certificate of Appreciation" to the UNT Libraries for the excellent manner in which the TXSSAR Archives have been maintained and preserved for future generations. The certificate was accepted by Michelle Mears, University Archivist.

The TXSSAR Archives contains important historical and genealogical documents as well as material relating to the Society. Of historical importance in the collection are proclamations signed by Preston Smith and George W. Bush (43rd U.S. President), and a photograph signed by Mark White, all of whom are former Texas Governors. Also included is a book published in 1840 entitled Monuments to George Washington's Patriotism, which is a facsimile of the account book in which he recorded his expenses during the American Revolution.

March 28, 2011: Wendell and Linda Edwards presented a program "Children in Colonial Times", at Lanier Elementary School in Tulsa OK. Christa Wallace was the organizing teacher. Two fifth grade classes were in attendance for the two hour presentation. The students were very attentive during the presentation and got very involved in playing the games, getting their picture taken with the rifle while wearing the powder horn and canteen and also enjoyed getting to look at and handle toys, games, and household items (replicas) from that time period.

Christa Wallace was the organizing teacher. Two fifth grade classes were in attendance for a two hour presentation. The students were very attentive during the presentation and got very involved in playing the games, getting their picture taken with the rifle while wearing the powder horn and canteen and also enjoyed getting to look at and handle toys, games, and household items (replicas) from that time period.

March 8, 2011: Presentation of Texas Flags by Tom Green assisted by John Greer, Wendell and Linda Edwards at the Como-Pickton School, Como, TX. About 120 of the 4th and 7th grade students were in attendance.

Then the presentation of U.S. Flags was made to about 105 of the 5th and 8th grade students.

The presentation was also made to the Gifted and Talented students (4th - 8th grade) at Como-Pickton School. Flags and Early American History from Exploration to Revolution were used in this presentation.

February 11, 2011: First graders Peyton Vrooman and Myeshia Williams show off the homemade Valentine's Day cards to Dr. Wendell Edwards and his wife, Linda Friday morning at Lamar Elementary school. Dr. and Mrs. Edwards have been delivering the cards for five years to the North East Texas Veterans Administration Health Center in Bonham. Students at the school made over 615 cards this year to deliver to the approximately 400 clients and patients of the health center.

DFW National Cemetery

The color guard was present at thefuneral of two Vietnam veterans at the DFW National Cemetery on January 14, 2011. Here is a slide show of the event.

SAR members provided an Honor Guard for funerals of two Air Force Viet Nam MIA's at 10 AM on January 14, 2011 at the DFW National Cemetery. The remains of Colonel James E. Dennany and Major Robert L. Tucci MIA in Laos 1969 were finally identified recently and returned home to DFW for burial. Here is the official report on their identification.
