Christmas Party at VA Hospital in Bonham, Texas

These are representatives from the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter of Hunt County and the Plano SAR Chapter. They are from left to right -- Dave Abbott (Prospective Member, application in process), Fraya Fisk, Santa (Wendell Edwards), Mrs. Claus (Linda Edwards), Paul Fisk, Jack Hughes (Plano Chapter), and in the back, John Greer.
The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter made 300 "Goodie Bags" filled with candy, cookies, and personal items. The activities at the Bonham VA included the distribution of donated items to the patients and residents at the facility. Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted each resident at the door and passed out candy canes. A lunch was provided to all Volunteers who participated in all activities on that date. It was a time that was very enjoyable to the residents as well as the volunteers.

Santa and Mrs. Claus also participated in the Christmas Party for the Alzheimer's Unit on Sunday afternoon, Dec 9. They helped pass out gifts and Christmas cards made by school children in Greenville, Como-Pickton and Commerce. Santa and Mrs. Claus also helped with the Christmas Party for the CLC (Nursing Home) Unit on Friday, Dec 13. They helped serve refreshments, visit with residents and families and pass out Christmas Cards and gifts which had been donated. Overall the school children made over 700 Christmas Cards which were passed out during three parties.

December 7, 2012: The SAR Color Guard attended the burial of Korean War KIA/MIA Sergeant Bobby Ray King.

In the words of Ann Sielert: "On this very special day, remembering Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, a KIA/MIA soldier from the Korean War, came home to America for his final resting place. He was Sgt. Bobby Ray King, and as an unidentified soldier, was buried in the Cemetery of the Pacific also known as "the Punchbowl". Don and I visited there on our last trip to Hawaii in Honolulu. It is a beautiful, very serene setting. He was finally identified by his chest X-ray and his teeth and was brought home for a proper military funeral."

"On this beautiful sunny day, there were six men in Revolutionary War unforms standing an honor guard for him. The SAR Color Guard participated in the Veteran's Day in Bonham, Texas
November 8, 2012

The Life of Bernado de Galvez

The Life of Bernado de Galvez was presented at the Allen Public Library featuring Chaz Mena who came from Florida to do this!! There was a nice crowd and it was well received. The Allen DAR chapter is named for Bernado de Galvez.The SAR Color Guard presented the colors at a performance

Funeral of Army Staff Sergeant Jeremie Border
at Restland Cemetery, Richardson, Texas

The SAR Color Guard presented the colors at the funeral of Army Staff Sergeant Jeremie Border at the Restland Cemetery in Richardson, Texas.

The Green Beret Honor Guard provided a procession

and later a 21 gun salute.

A bag piper played Amazing Grace.

The Rough Riders baseball game in Frisco, Texas

The SAR Color Guard presented the colors at the Frisco Rough Riders baseball game in Frisco, Texas.

July 4th, 2012: At the Eisemann Center, Richardson, Texas
with the Plano Symphony Orchestra,
Plano Civic Chorus and Patriotic Pops Chorus.


The fabulous Steve Amerson, tenor, also sang solos at the concert and it WAS awesome! What a voice that man has!! Maestro Hector Guzman is just the test ever!!!! And the Plano Chapter SAR Color Guard presented the colors. The whole afternoon was just so much fun and the music was so perfect!!!

June 29, 2012: Wendell Edwards of the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter, TXSSAR and Linda Edwards of the Captain Charles Croxall Chapter, TSDAR presented a program on "Games Children Played in Colonial Times" at the Northeast Texas Children's Museum in Commerce, Texas.

June 21, 2012: The SAR Color Guard presented their flag program for the H2U volunteer group at Medical Center of Plano.

The Color Guard members discussed the variety of flags used by the American revolutionaries during this war of 1776 - 1783.

On May 28, 2012, the Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter, TXSSAR assisted the Captain Charles Croxall DAR Chapter with the 60th Annual Memorial Day Service in Commerce, Texas. It was held at the First Baptist Church at 6:00 pm. The North Texas Color Guard participated with Tom Whitelock, Mike Everheart, and Wendell Edwards. The speaker was Captain Jon David Scott, US Army Reserve/Texas Army National Guard. The Commerce boy scout and girl scouts also participated along with the Hunt County Veterans Honor Guard. The Hunt County Veterans Honor Guard presented the flags from all branches of service along with the POW/MIA flag as well as presenting a 21 Gun Salute. This was followed by "Taps" with "dueling trumpets" by Bob Linemann and Rob McWhorter. A proclamation was given by the new Commerce Mayor, John Ballottii.

Wendell Edwards helped in organizing the participation of the TXSSAR Color Guard, Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter, Boy Scout Troop, and the Hunt County Veterans Honor Guard.

The Hunt County Veterans Honor Guard fired a 21 gun salute with M1 rifles.

May 24, 2012: The Color Guard attended the final service for Corporal Wayne R. Erickson at the DFW National Cemetery.


Corporal Erickson served during World War II in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of a bomber squadron. During the evening of April 22, 1944 they took off during a rainstorm on a training mission from Luganville Airfield on the Island of Espirtu Santo and failed to return. Efforts to search for the missing aircraft and crew proved unsuccessful. In 2007 a search team that included family members of one of the other crewmen was able to locate aqnd identify the crash site of the missing plane. Evidence provided by this team was provided to the JPAC for further investigation. During the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011, JPAC was able to recover the remains and identify all six crew members. After 68 years, these brave Marines are now coming home. He was buried on what would have been his 88th birthday. He was born May 24, 1924 and died at age 19.
It was an honor to be at his service and to have our color guard stand at attention for him. They came from Fort Worth, Denton, Plano, Richardson, Greenille and McKinney. Photos from Wosar Ann Sielert.

On May 23, 2012, Wendell and Linda Edwards presented the 4th grade Outstanding Citizenship Award at Travis Elementary School in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Because of a unique, irresolvable tie in the selection process, Macie Moore and Justin Brock were both named as recipients.

May 19, 2012: The fifth annual flag SAR/DAR flag retirement and Honor Our Veterans ceremony was at the Gabe Nesbitt community park in McKinney, Texas. Here is the YouTube video of the event.

We had about 200 attendees including veterans from WWII through the current wars, including a Navy Veteran who was present at the Pearl Harbor attack of Dec 7, 1941 and a Tuskegee Airman from WWII. We also had two Buffalo Soldiers from the Viet Nam war, one of which has received 3 Purple Hearts.

An Air Force sergeant guided the Scouts with proper procedures for folding, cutting and burning of a retired American flag.

The flag was cut into small pieces and burned.

Awards were presented to Veterans.

Veterans addressed the group.

McKinney Chapter President Jack Twiggs presented Compatriot Don Babbs the SAR War Service Medal.

at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas on May 3, 2012.

This was a wonderful experience. The service was very nice and patriotic. Ned Larowe from the Plano Chapter gave a very interesting talk on "Religion's influence on the American Revolution". There were many prayers for our country!

at Lanier Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma for two of their 5th grade classes.

April 25, 2012: Wendell E. April 24, 2012: Compatriots Jim Johnson, Drake Peddie, John Greer, Bill Neisel, Tom Whitelock , Don Babbs, and Blair Rudy an Honor Guard for Spc Philip C. S. Schiller KIA. While waiting for the Funeral procession the Honor Guard also provided Honors for four other funerals.

"I wish to take this opportunity to thank those who came out to support this young man and his family at DFW National Cemetery yesterday and braved some warm temperatures for an extended period of time that we were out there. Special thanks go out to Jim Johnson, John Greer, Blair Rudy, Bill Neisel, Don Babbs and Tom Whitelock who joined me in presenting a final farewell salute as well over a hundred patriot guard went by us in the procession. FYI, during our wait, we also lined up for four (4) other veterans' funerals that came through. That's right, we actually had the honor of participating in 5 funerals yesterday. A member of one of the other funerals came back around to thank us for being there after their service ended. It was a busy, but very rewarding day. There are pictures floating around that we have not collected yet. Will distribute them to this list when we get them. Please pass this on to others that I may have missed. Once again, thanks for your support."

April 18, 2012: Drake Peddie, Wendell Edwards, Jim Johnson, Don Sielert, Don Babbs, Howard Roach, Jack Hughes and John Greer presented a program on Revolutionary Flags at the CLC (living center) at the Bonham Veterans facility in Bonham, Texas.

Flags of the Revolutionary War are standing behind the speaker.

Benjamin Franklin designed this flag several years before the war began. It encouraged the thirteen independent English colonies to band together.

The Revolutionary standard: The Gadsden flag. Other rattlesnake flags were widely used during the American Revolution. There was no standard American flag at the time. People were free to choose their own banners.

March 31, 2012: The SAR Color Guard presented History Fair Day at the Plano Haggard Library. Here is a slide show of the event.

Drake Peddie is doing his presentation. We had a great crowd for a Saturday AM at the library!

James Johnson portrayed "John Trumbull" , the famous revolutioary war artist. He is drawing George Washington.

Bill Covington displayed many replicas of revolutionary war items.

SAR members wore uniforms of their revolutionary war ancestors.

The story of the "Don't Tread on Me" flag is presented to the audience. All of the flags in the background were discussed with the audience during the program.

March 22-25, 2012: Wendell Edwards, John Greer, and Dan Reed attended the state Convention in San Antonio. The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter received a certificate for giving all four Public Safety awards. We also were the top Chapter in points in the second classification for the John B. Bruce Stuart Veterans Memorial contest.

On March 21, 2012, the SAR Color Guard presented their flag program to the Grace Academy in Prosper, Texas. This program was presented to the 5th, 6th and 7th graders in this private Christian school.

Dan Reed is discussing the flag know as "Join or Die". Ben Franklin often did political cartoons in his newspaper in 1755 and this was one of them. It later became a well known flag in 1776.

March 15, 2012: The SAR color guardsmen presented their flag program to the Preston Trail DAR chapter at Napoli's Restaurant in Pottsboro, Texas on .

March 14, 2012:

The SAR Color Guard presented their revolutionary war flag program to some 38 residents of the Stonefield Assisted Living Community in McKinney

The guardsmen showed the various flags used by the Americans during the Revolutionary War.

March 14, 2012: The SAR chapter members met the returning troops at DFW airport for the last time. Future returning flights will go to Atlanta instead of DFW. Here is a YouTube video of the event.

Wosar Ann Sielert said "Today was a bittersweet day--good for the soldiers but sad for those of us who have greeted and welcomed them home for the past 5 years. Don and I have been doing it that long. These events were very important to us, and we felt it was the least we could do for them as they protected us and our great country. God bless Donna Cranston and Linda Robinson for starting the program in 2004. What a wonderful welcome home these 240 soldiers got on the last R & R flight into DFW. There were over 1000 people there to greet them. And to our surprise, three of our members were very visible on the front page of the Dallas Morning News this morning."

Compatriots Harvey Vrooman, Dick Arnold, Don Sielert, Tony Day, Don Babbs and Dan Reed. talked with a wonderful vet of World War II and Korea. Such an honor to visit with him. Very few of them left.

March 5, 2012: The SAR Color Guard performed at the Plano symphony school concert at the Eisemann Center in Plano.

The Color Guard was on stage as the kids entered the auditorium.

Howard Roach, Don Babbs, Dick Arnold, Don Sielert, Harvey Vrooman, Bill Neisel and Dan Reed. No photos were allowed after the concert started.

February 28, 2012: The SAR color guard made a flag program presentation to two classes of JROTC at the Wylie East High School. Their instructor is Colonel Wayne Wilbanks. The students were very attentive and polite to us. Colonel Wilbanks is well known to the color guard and is a great teacher. Thanks so much for a delightful afternoon.

John Greer, Don Babbs, Don Sielert, Howard Roach and Dan Reed. Dan is the master of ceremonies. The history of early American flags was presented.

The "Join or die" flag is shown. It was first a political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin in 1754.

Retired USAF Brigadier General Jerry Dalton made a great presentation on military duty and what the armed services are looking for in recruits these days. He was inspring to the kids as he started his career in JROTC.

Howard Roach described the features of his "Brown Bess" musket. He also talked about the Culpeper Minute Men's flag that said "Don't tread on me" and "Liberty or death."

Don Sielert discussed the Bunker Hill flag that Don Babbs is holding. This battle was fought on June 17, 1775 on and around Breed's Hill during the Siege of Boston. Lots of disagreement about this flag such as its color and whether it was really used that day.

February 24, 2012: The SAR Color Guard presented their flag program to the Wellington Retirement Community in Richardson, Texas.

Compatriot Don Sielert and Don Babbs presented Dick Arnold a flag certificate for his new flag at his place in the Wellington. Drake Peddie also presented Dick Arnold with a certificate of appreciation for his service to the SAR over all the years he had been a member.

Bill Neisel presented a certificate of appreciation for the way Wellington treats their veterans to the Wellington representative Oly.

February 18, 2012: The Ambassador Fletcher Warren SAR Chapter and The Captain Charles Croxall DAR Commerce Chapter held a joint meeting in Fairlie, Texas.

Drake Peddie was the guest speaker. His topic was Pirates, Privateers, or Patriots.

John Greer, Wendell Edwards, Paul Fisk, and Robert Davis were sworn in by Peter Rowley as officers for 2012.

New member Joseph Webber was inducted into the Abassador Fletcher Warren Chapter by District 9 Vice President Peter Rowley.

February 14, 2012: Chapter members brought Valentine gifts to the VA hospital in Bonham.

These 2000+ valentines were distributed to all residents in the "DOM" and Nursing facility as well as all the employees and patients in the Out Patient Clinics on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

Linda (DAR) and Wendell Edwards and John Greer with the 2000+ valentines from the nine schools in Sulphur Springs, Greenville, and Como-Pickton and the two chapters.

Some of the special valentines from the schools. They were all very creative.

The first thing we did was go through all the valentines to make sure they were appropriate for the residents at the VA.
