April 11, 2015 minutes

- Meeting was called to order by President James Scott

- President-Elect Lane Redwine led pledges to the flag of The United States Of America, the flag Of The State Of Texas, and the flag of the Sons Of The American Revolution.

- Chaplain William Towery opened in prayer.

- Secretary Rick Malley presented our guest for the day.

- Minutes of the March meeting were approved.

- President Scott talked about JROTC awards and the need for assistance in presenting the awards.

- Treasurer Bill Freeman reported that we have $1754.22 in our account. Of that amount, $450.00 is what was returned to the chapter in the form of chapter dues.

- Past President Ray DeVries reported on Operation Ancestry Search. He stated that they had gone on Friday the 10th, and realized that Friday is not a good day. He spoke of the possibility of moving it to Wednesday afternoons. (On a side note, he mentioned that Fish City Grill will allow us to have a portion of their receipts for our treasury. We will be given more information as it is available.)

- District Vice President Ron Walcik present the chapter with a Patriot Funds Excellence Award, and a Flag Program Award. Don Bunnell was announced as being awarded the Lamplight Award, and Dan Stauffer received the Hartsell O. Stevens Award For First Line Sponsor, as well as the Liberty Medal.

- Mr. Walcik also gave some highlights from the state conference. *For long range planning, the state need to know goals for local chapters, so the state can adjust and assist with those goals. *The state would like to change the culture of the membership - that is, to recruit younger members. Youth membership will be a big push. *National is developing a new record keeping system, similar to DAR, with "online applications". Testing should begin this summer. *Annual report for 2015 is on National website. *He addresses ways to retain membership - call members who have dropped. There is also a push to begin sending renewal reminders in late Spring/early Summer. *State has decided on a new coastal registrar, who will be announced soon.

- Past President DeVries brought up that there is a problem with the state website not posting current local officers.

- Induction of new member David Scott.


- After lunch President Elect Lane Redwine introduced Jason Walker, director of the Texas State Cemetery. He told us about some of the memorable folks who are buried at the cemetery.

- Following his talk, Mr. Redwine presented Mr. Walker with a memento of his visit.

- SAR recessional was led by Lane Redwine.

- Closing prayer voiced by Chaplain Bill Towery.
