March 12, 2016 minutes

- President James Scott called the meeting to order.

- President Elect Lane Redwine led the pledges to the Flag of The United States Of America, The State Flag Of Texas, and The Sons Of The American Revolution.

- Opening prayer was led by Mike Nichols.

- Secretary Rick Malley introduced our guests.

- The minutes from the January meeting were approved.

- President Scott gave a brief presentation about the Culper Ring.

- The president also reported about the joint SAR/DAR meeting in February, and reminded us that the next joint meeting will be in September in honor of The U.S. Constitution

- He also reminded us that the State Convention will be at the end of March, in Richardson, TX.

- Registrar Harry Walden told us that several applications have been sent to state, but have not yet been forwarded national. A number have been approved, but have not received official notifications.

- President Scott asked that everyone consider volunteering as officers for the coming year.

- Mike Nichols reported that Bianca Ritter was selected as the Texas State Contest winner for the Knight Essay and was awarded $2500.00.

- The president reported that there will be a naturalization ceremony on April 21 at LBJ Library on UT campus, and encouraged anyone with color guard uniforms to attend.

- Treasurer Bill Freeman reported that we have $1683.95 in our account.

- Past President Ray DeVries reported that there would only be one Operation Ancestry Search meeting in March, on the 23rd. He stated that participants are anticipatory, and now wait for OAS volunteers to show up.

- Mr. DeVries also reported that members of our color guard participated in a ceremony, sponsored by the Military Order Of The Purple Heart, in honor of Washington's birthday.

- LUNCH was served

- Dr. James L. Hailey gave a presentation about the history of Hawaii.

- Mr. Redwine presented Dr. Hailey with a memento of his visit with us.

- Closing prayer was led by Mike Nichols.

- Recessional was led by Lane Redwine.

- As we were departing, President Scott informed us that our chapter would be participating is presenations 8 area high schools JROTC awards ceremonies. He asked for volunteers to make these presentations.
