Minutes of the regularly slated meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held on Saturday, January 12th, 2002 at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.

Around or about 8:03 a.m., President Gary Sisson called the meeting to order.  The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by Chaplain Frank Pounders.  Former Chapter President John Warterfield led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.  Compatriot Bill Richardson led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag, and Compatriot Keith Beers led the Salute to the SAR Flag.  President Sisson led the a capella singing of the first verse of “America”.  Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock then led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line. 

The greeters were TXSSAR District 6 Vice-President Ralph McDowell, Former Chapter President Mark Hansen and Compatriot Tom Smith.  Guests were introduced table-by-table by their hosts.  The guest list is available from the Treasurer’s sign-in sheet.  Resident humorist and Former Chapter President Art Ingalls delivered the joke of the month.  Motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the minutes of the last meeting as posted on the Dallas Chapter website, with Compatriot Bill Richardson casting the lone dissenting vote.

2nd Vice-President Jack Carney announced the need for a nominee for this year’s Fireman Commendation Award.  Historian Hank Voegtle announced the need for pictures and articles for this year’s scrapbook.  Compatriot Bob Coursey reported on CAR activities.  Newsletter Editor Charles Baker announced the need for judges for the annual elementary school Poster Contest on Saturday, March 2nd, 2002 and passed around a sign-up list for those wishing to judge.  President Sisson announced that the TXSSAR annual convention will be March 8th-10th in Tyler, Texas.  District 6 V.P. McDowell displayed a sample of the original 13 colonies coin books that the chapter will be purchasing as a fundraiser.

Former Chapter President Hansen gave the following report of the Nominating Committee’s nominees for 2002-2003 Dallas Chapter officers:  President-Cliff Slagle, 1st Vice-President-Jack Carney, 2nd Vice-President-Tracy Pounders, Secretary-Hank Voegtle, Treasurer-Tom Smith, Registrar-Melvin McCoy and Historian-Tom Whitelock.

Registrar Don Hay inducted new members Dennis White and James Templin and presented Compatriot Tom Smith with a Perpetual Membership Certificate and Card.   Registrar Hay then gave an Americanism presentation, reading the winning essay of last year’s NSSAR Essay Contest.

President Sisson introduced the speaker, retired Dallas County Assistant Chief Deputy Terry Baker, whose topic, “Finding the Forgotten”, described his efforts to identify those law enforcement officers of the past who were killed in the line of duty without recognition.  Afterward, President Sisson presented Deputy Baker with a miniature Liberty Bell replica and a Certificate of Appreciation.

Treasurer Tracy Pounders delivered the Treasurer’s report (cash in checking account-$1,242.68, cash on hand-$100.00 and investment funds-$32,904.77) and conducted a door prize drawing.  President Sisson delivered the SAR closing, and Chaplain Pounders gave the benediction.   The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:50 a.m.
