Minutes of the regularly slated monthly meeting of the Dallas Chapter, Texas Society, Sons of the American Revolution held on Saturday, March 16th, 2002 at Luby’s Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.

Around or about 8:00 a.m., President Gary Sisson called the meeting to order. The sick call was read and the invocation delivered by Chaplain Frank Pounders. Compatriot Elvin Brown led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag. Compatriot Charles Bowling led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas Flag, and Compatriot Bill Welch led the Salute to the SAR Flag. President Sisson led the a capella singing of the first verse of “America”. Sergeant-at-Arms Tom Whitelock then led the members and guests to the breakfast serving line.

The greeters were TXSSAR District 6 Vice-President Ralph McDowell, Former Chapter President Richard Jones and Compatriots Rusty Ballard and Don Hawkes. Guests were introduced table-by-table by their hosts. The guest list is available from the Treasurer’s sign-in sheet. In the absence of the Secretary, President Sisson read the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the minutes, with a correction to include Chaplain Frank Pounders as the nominee for Chaplain for 2002-2003.

Registrar Don Hay inducted new member Roy Lee Pierce, sponsored by 1st V.P. Slagle. President Sisson then gave a report of the attendance of Chapter members at the TXSSAR Annual Meeting in Tyler the previous weekend and of the awards received both by individuals and the Chapter. TXSSAR V.P. McDowell and Sgt.-at-Arms Whitelock gave a report on the 13 Colonies Coin Books fundraiser.

Chaplain Pounders then led a memorial to members deceased since the March, 2001 meeting, assisted by President Sisson, 1st V.P. Slagle and 2nd V.P. Jack Carney. Afterward, President Sisson presented a Flag Certificate to Compatriot Robert M. Clark, Jr. for properly displaying the U.S. Flag at his office building at 4627 N. Central Expressway, Knox Central Place. President Sisson also presented Ashley Clark, daughter of Compatriot Robert Clark, and Augie Voegtle, son of Historian Hank Voegtle each with a two-dollar bill with Trumbull’s Signing of the Declaration on the obverse, provided by TXSSAR V.P. McDowell.

President Sisson then made the annual presentation of awards for Dallas Chapter members and non-members who assisted in Dallas Chapter activities and meetings for the 2001-2002 reporting year.

Former TXSSAR President and NSSAR Trustee Richard Arnold presented and installed as Dallas Chapter Officers the following nominees for 2002-2003: President-Cliff Slagle, 1st Vice President-Jack Carney, 2nd Vice President-Tracy Pounders, Secretary-Hank Voegtle, Treasurer-Tom Smith, Historian-Tom Whitelock and Chaplain-Frank Pounders (Compatriot Melvin McCoy, nominee for Registrar, was unable to attend and will be installed at a later date). Former President Sisson then presented an Americanism report, “Excerpts from the Inaugural Address of President John Adams”, followed by parting comments to the Chapter and President Slagle. FP Sisson then presented President Slagle with the Chapter President’s neck ribbon, gavel and rostrum. President Slagle, in turn, presented FP Sisson with a gavel plaque, a cap, a book of Japanese art and a Past President’s neck ribbon for his faithful service as Chapter President.

Treasurer Tom Smith conducted a door prize drawing, President Slagle delivered the SAR closing, and Chaplain Pounders gave the benediction. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:05 a.m.
