Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Dallas Chapter, TXSSAR, of June 8, 2002.

The regular monthly meeting of the Dallas Chapter, TXSSAR was held at Luby's Cafeteria, 6221 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas on Saturday, June 8, 2002.

Presiding was Chapter President Cliff Slagle and the Secretary, Hank Voegtle, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.

A quorum of members was present, 40 members and 18 guests.

The following proceedings were had:

At 8:00 A.M. the meeting was called to order by President Slagle. The invocation and sick call were given by Chaplain Frank Pounders. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Compatriot Bob Coker, the Pledge to the Texas flag was led by Compatriot Mel McCoy, and the Pledge to the S.A.R. Flag was led by Art Ingalls. Gary Sissons led the group in the singing of "America." Upon the conclusion of those events the assembled members and guests were called to breakfast by Sergeant at Arms Richard Fawkes.

The meeting resumed at 8:35 A.M. Gary Sissons introduced the greeters for the meeting: Bill Richardson, Richard Fawkes and Elvin Brown.

Guests attending the meeting were then introduced. The Treasurer's Report was given by Compatriot Tom Smith. The chapter has $ 3,034.74 in its checking account and $ 33,003.54 in its Smith Barney account. Second Vice President Tracy Pounders recognized those members who had assisted him in presenting ROTC and Good Citizenship awards this spring. The Historian's Report was given by Compatriot Tom Whitlock, who discussed preparations for the Chapter's 75th anniversary in 2004, and changes to the Albertson's affinity program. Compatriot John Waterfield, DAR Liaison, announced that local DAR chapter regents and guests would be recognized at the July meeting. Compatriot Waterfield also announced that DAR Regents Constitution Brunch will take place at Brookhaven Country Club on Saturday, September 21, 2002, featuring the Dallas Police Chorus. Tickets will be $20.00 and Compatriot Waterfield will have order forms at the July, August and September chapter meetings.

Compatriot Charles Baker spoke about the SAR Color Guard participation in the Dallas Memorial Day function at Restland Cemetery and in Commerce, Texas. He also mentioned tow upcoming activities, the first at Valley View Center on Friday, June 14, and the Lake Highlands July 4 parade. In other Color Guard activities, Compatriot Richard Arnold presented Charles Baker with the rank of Major. Compatriot Richard Arnold also presented Ralph McDowell and Cliff Slagle with the rank of Captain.

Registrar Mel McCoy then inducted new member Arthur Chalmers Honberg, Jr.

President Slagle introduced the speaker for the meeting, Patrick Henry portrayed by Past Chapter President Garry Sissons. At the conclusion of his presentation, Compatriot Sissons was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a miniature Liberty Bell.

The drawing was held for two door prizes.

Compatriot Art Ingalls gave a short message to enlighten the assembled group.

Compatriot John Waterfield led the meeting in the S.A.R. closing, followed by Chaplain Pounders giving the benediction.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:36 A.M.
