Dallas Chapter Meeting
May 8, 2004
President Tracy Pounders called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m., with a call for a moment of silence to remember those who do not carry a gun on the battlefront, both at home and abroad.
Chaplain Frank Pounders gave the Sick Call: Mel McCoy's mother Ethel died, and wife Judy is ill.
Respective pledges to the American, Texas, and SAR Flags were led by Harry Post, Tom Hill, and Al Christian. President Pounders led in the singing of "America."
Sergeant-at-Arms Glenn Toal directed the hungry stampede to breakfast.
The meeting reconvened at 8:30, with SAA Toal introducing the greeters, Rick Fawkes and himself.
Guests were introduced, and Art Ingalls educated the group in his own unique way.
In Mel McCoy's absence, Ralph McDowell reported the current chapter membership stands at 290, with 8 applications in the stream. For this meeting, 40 members and 8 guests were present.
Ralph swore in new Compatriots Allen Christian and Doyle Stacy, who were respectively sponsored by Cliff Slagle and Bob Sanders.
Ralph also presented a check from Tom Thumb in the amount of $35.84 from the Reward Program (1 Q, 2004) and urged members to participate by linking their Tom Thumb Reward Card with Reward Account # 7097.
North Texas Militia Commander Charles Baker announced various color guard opportunities for this month. He also pointed out that three of the upcoming Color Guard activities include a free meal:
Compatriot Jim Templin invited the Color Guard, both in military uniform and period clothing, to his and Helen's home in Ennis for an authentic Czech lunch.
2nd V.P. Tom Smith announced that 42 medals have been awarded to area Junior High (Citizenship Medals) and Senior High (JROTC) students.
Treasurer Elvin Brown reported the following balances as of the end of April:
President Tracy Pounders asked for a volunteer to be the Chapter Historian. Following the meeting, Jim Templin volunteered.
First VP Tom Whitelock introduced Compatriot Mark Hansen who gave an Americanism presentation by reading a poem titled, "Flag of the Free."
FCP Cliff Slagle presented Daughters of Liberty Medals to Henrietta Slagle and Barbara Smith for their work on the 2004 TXSSAR Convention.
First VP Tom Whitelock introduced Compatriot Lloyd Bockstruck, Head of the Genealogy Section of the Dallas Public Library, who gave a historical overview of 75 years of the Dallas Chapter and its leaders. Following his talk, Bockstruck received an SAR clock.
Compatriot John Morton led the SAR Closing, and Chaplain Frank Pounders pronounced the benediction. The meeting was adjourned by President Tracy Pounders.
