The SAR awards the JROTC/ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the“Citizen-soldier”, exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War Days.

The Silver ROTC Medal is presented only to students in a college or university ROTC unit.

The Bronze JROTC Medal is presented only to students in secondary school JROTC units.

The current TXSSAR program is a cost sharing program which helps the smaller chapters with the expense of the medals.  The chapter is responsible to purchase one medal for every 25 members or fraction thereof, and for any new schools they will add next year.  Membership is determined by report received from the TXSSAR secretary at the August BOM.  TXSSAR will purchase both the chapter purchased and TXSSAR cost sharing medals at the Fall NSSAR trustees meeting.  These medals will be available for purchase/pickup starting at the fall BOM meeting, March Annual meeting, or by making arrangements with the chairman of the committee to send them, with additional handling costs charged to the chapter.

In order to participate in this program and enable us to order the correct number of medals, the chapters must present the following information to the Chairman of the TXSSAR JROTC/ROTC Committee by August 1 of each year.
(Please forward in excel format if you can.)

The total amount of medals should equal what you report on the annual report submitted in December of each year.
