Welcome to the Capt. John M. McAdams Chapter #27,
Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution web page.

The Captain John M. McAdams Chapter #27 was chartered on March 12, 1972, is located in Huntsville, Texas, and is named because many of the chapter members are descendents of patriot Captain John M. McAdams.  John McAdams was born in Ireland in 1757 and first settled as a farmer in South Carolina.  He was a Captain under Major Williamson during the American Revolution.

The organizing president was Kelly Edgar McAdams who founded the chapter in 1973.  He has been honored with an SAR memorial marker at his grave site located in the McAdams Cemetery in Walker County.

TXSSAR Bicentennial Patriots Plaque Rededication Ceremony

The Captain John M. McAdams Chapter hosted a rededication ceremony for the TXSSAR Bicentennial Patriots Plaque located at the Walker Co. Courthouse in Huntsville.  The ceremony was held on April 9, 2011.  This plaque was originally dedicated in September 1987 and listed all known Patriots of the American Revolution who were buried in Texas.  Veterans of all military actions of the United States were honored along with the Revolutionary War Patriots honored on the plaque.  A complimentary lunch was served after the ceremony at the Walker Co. Storm Shelter and Convention Center.

The Capt. John McAdams Chapter is actively seeking men interested in proving their lineage for the purposes of gaining membership.
