Timothy Hawkins

Compatriot Timothy T. Hawkins (March 2018)

Timothy was born on July 24, 1953, the youngest child of Fredrick Lemoyne Hawkins and Chrystelle Colleen Leach. After doing various jobs and going to school for a year, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in Sweetwater, Texas as a clerk. During his 41-year career, he worked as a Clerk, Operator, Crew Caller, Customer Service, Yardmaster, and Tech Support. In order to stay employed, he was required to move numerous times. He worked in Sweetwater, Gainesville, Dallas, Coleman, Cleburne, Topeka KS, Fort Worth, and Euless. He has one son that he fought for custody of in 1978 when he was 3 years old, won and reared him alone until his senior year of School. He is currently married to his 3rd wife, Pamela Gay Benton and remains happily married. He retired from the railroad on July 24, 2013. Tim's 2nd Great-Grandfather died on the same calendar date as he was born and retired.

Timothy is the 2nd Great-Grandson of Major John Hawkins. He was born in Dec. 1762 in Hyco River, Orange County, North Carolina. He was the son of Augustine Austin Hawkins and Elizabeth Henley. It is said he was a Revolutionary Soldier from Buncome County, North Carolina. He died 24 Jul 1840 in Potosi, Washington County, Missouri.


Nicholas Mandich

Nicholas was born and raised in Cleburne, Texas on June 18, 1986. He graduated from Cleburne High School and then attended the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating in 2009 and 2010. He currently works as a production lead at a company in Fort Worth, constructing custom steel forms for concrete structures.

Nicholas is the 5th great-grandson of Josiah Barnes, born September 6, 1764 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a Corporal in the Continental Troops of the Connecticut Regiment. He died on May 23, 1835 in Hartford, Connecticut.

Mark Balliet

Compatriot Mark Gerald Balliet (January 2018)

Mark Balliet transferred from the Fort Halifax Chapter, of the Pennsylvania Society at the January meeting with 16 Patriot Ancestors in tow. In Pennsylvania, he served as Chapter Genealogist/Registrar from 2012 to 2016, Chapter Vice President from 2014 to 2015, and Chapter President from 2015 to 2016. He also served as State District Deputy for District 5 from 2015 to 2016.

Mark was born in Berwick, Pennsylvania, on September 17th (on the 175th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution and 100th anniversary of the bloodiest battle on American soil, Antietam) and graduated from Hershey Senior High School, Hershey, Pennsylvania, in June 1980. He also graduated Summa Cum Laude from Montgomery County Community College in May 1997 with a degree in Business Management.

Mark served in the U.S. Navy from October 1980 to December 2004. His primary duty was Personnel Management, but also served as Weapons Loading Team Leader, Recruit Processing, Chaplain Assistant, Military Police Patrolman, Military Police Dispatcher, Military Police Section Leader, and Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor. He served with VS-28, an Anti-Submarine Squadron, and aboard the Aircraft Carrier, USS Independence (CV-62). He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in December 2004 from NASJRB Fort Worth, TX. After retiring, he returned to Pennsylvania and earned his Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) credentials as a Service Advisor on GM and Honda vehicles. He was also employed for ten years as Warehouse Manager for a midsize Pool Installation and Service Company.

Mark returned to Texas with his wife, Gladys, also a military retiree, to be close to their grandchildren. He and his wife reside in Weatherford. They have four children and nine grandchildren.

Mark's 16 Patriot Ancestors range in rank from Private to CAPT, serving in the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts Militias. He shares ancestry with Abraham Lincoln, through Abraham Lincoln's great-great-grandfather, Mordecai Lincoln II, of Exeter Twp., Pennsylvania.

Kirby Boyd

Compatriot Kirby Lee Boyd (November 2017)

Kirby L. Boyd was born in Odessa, Texas, and grew up on a farm in Balmorhea in West Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School and married Gwen Henry and they moved to Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a BGS in Math and Computer Science.

He worked in the field of Computer Network Engineering at Computer Sciences Corporation and Lockheed Martin Corporation and their heritage divisions for over 40 years and is now retired.

He and his wife have two sons who are both recent members of this chapter. They are long-time members of First Presbyterian Church.

Kirby enjoys traveling and camping, as well as flying and working on his vintage Cessna 170 Taildragger. His male Collie, Rolex, is his “navigator” and flies and camps with him. He and his wife both belong to the Cessna 170 Club and participate in club fly-ins.

Kirby’s Patriot Ancestor was Isaac Blount from North Carolina. He served as a soldier in Capt. Moye Militia NC. He resided during the American Revolution at Pitt Co, NC. Reference: NC Rev War Pay Vouchers #S.1989, Roll # S.115.68. He married Sarah “Sallie” about 1776 and after receiving a Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grant, they moved to Georgia where he died after 1840. He was listed as a Pensioner in the Revolutionary War Pensioner Census, 1841, Hancock, Georgia. Kirby’s lineage is through his son, Moab Blount, born in NC.


Kirby Boyd

Compatriot Paul E. Ming (August 2017)

Paul E. Ming, was born March 31, 1931 (86 years) in El Reno, Oklahoma, and raised in Oklahoma City. He attended Central High School before dropping out to join the army in 1948. He was in the 7th Infantry Division as a Combat Medic during the Korean War 1950-51.

Married to Bobbie Ruth Cornett for 70 years this past May, they have four grown daughters (two are DAR members), two grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Paul was a Law Enforcement Officer for 38 years, 20 of those years for the El Paso Police Department from 1959-1980. He retired in 1993. His genealogy hobby has occupied his time since 1965. He and Bobbie also loved camping and RVing until his age required them to stop.

His Patriot Ancestor, Colonel William C. Whitley, 1749-1813, served as a scout in the Revolutionary War with General George Rogers Clark in the west. He was a well-known Kentucky pioneer and Indian fighter. He was killed in the War of 1812 at the Battle of The Thames in Canada.


Billy E. Thompson

Compatriot Billy E. Thompson (August 2017)

Billy E. Thompson, Watauga, Texas, joined our chapter at the August 19, 2017 meeting. Billy was born in Walnut Springs, Texas but spent the first few years in California, moving back to Texas in 1949. He attended school in Walnut Springs, Godley, and finally in Cleburne where he graduated from high school in 1959.

Billy served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December 1961 until April 1966. Billy is married and has four children, ten grandchildren with one more grandchild on the way. His education was in the field of advertising design / electronic technology with a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering. He has been retired since January 2015 and resides in Watauga.

His Patriot Ancestor is Linn Stanton who served in the French and Indian War as a soldier and was providing supplies to the Continental Army during the American Revolution. We hope that Billy becomes a familiar face around the future chapter meetins.


Ricky Joe Tuggle, Sr.

Compatriot Ricky Joe Tuggle, Sr. (August 2017)

Our newest chapter member is Ricky Joe Tuggle, Sr., who had been a member of the Dallas chapter for a number of years. He recently started working on his genealogy and family history and decided it was time to get back in the SAR. Ricky has moved to the Fort Worth area and is now a member of our chapter and was in attendance at our August meeting.

Ricky was born in Muenster, Texas and grew up on a farm outside of town. He attended North Central Texas, Trinidad State Colorado, and Colorado Northwestern. He has worked as a Manufacturing/Design Engineer in the aircraft industry for the last 30+ years and currently works for Lockheed in Fort Worth and also raises cattle in Montague County. Ricky is married, has one son and two grandchildren.

His Patriot Ancestor is John Tuggle. He enlisted in 1778 and served as a priivate in the 9th Virginia Regiment of Foot. His father, Henry Tuggle III, also took the oath of allegiance.


Bill Hawkins

Compatriot William E. "Bill" Hawkins (July 2017)

Bill Hawkins was inducted as a new memberr of our chapter at the July meeting; he and his wife were both at the induction ceremony. Bill was born and raised in Johnson County, graduating from Joshua High School in 1951. He attended Brantley Draughon Business College for a time and then was drafted in the Army in 1956. Bill served in Germany for a time and then left active duty status in 1958.

While in the Army, he was assigned in Heidelberg, Germany at the Personnel Department of the Medical Division. After active duty, he was in the U. S. Army Reserves in Fort Worth for about ten years, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class, E7.

He worked for Sinclair Oil Corporation / Atlantic Richfield Company until taking retirement in 1988; he worked in several locations around the Country. After retiring, he and his wife opened a gift shop in Estes Park, CO which they operated for ten years.

Bill has been married for 64 years and has two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He had enrolled at TCU years ago but the work career made attending class difficult; after 22 years he obtained a degree in Management from the University of Redlands, Redlands, CA.

His Patriot Ancestor was James Guthery from Hanover County, VA; he was in the Continental Line under the command of Major Dickson. After the war, Guthery moved to South Carolina and became a farmer. Guthery died in Union County, SC.
