May 17, 2004

The group gathered in the library at about 5:30 PM. Members present were Fred Jacobs, Tom Gann, Ed Shelton, Lance Sparks and Fred Preston.  Guests were Mildred Sparks, Betty Preston and Jane Shelton.

Cindy McMullen showed us how to get on the Internet from the Kurth Memorial Library web page and enter Heritage Quest. Then how to search census records and other features to find our ancestors. Cindy also showed some of the members how to find books they were interested in and other tools available such as a magnifier for those with bad eyesight.

President Preston presented a check to Cindy McMullen to be used to purchase books related to the Revolutionary War. A group picture was taken of the presentation.

Some of the SAR members attended the meeting of the Angelina Genealogy Society which was going on at the same time. These members then came with the others to the Golden Corral where we ate and at about 7:30 Fred Preston called the meeting to order.

At this time members who had attended the Angelina Gen. Society meeting joined us for dinner and the rest of our meeting. These included Vance Roberts, Woody Gann and Jeff Corbett. Guests were Sue Roberts and Mary and Sam Griffin. Sam is a prospective new member.

Chaplain Sparks gave the invocation. Fred Preston led the assemblage in the pledge to the American Flag and then gave the pledge to the SAR Flag.

President Preston introduced the guests Mary and Sam Griffin.

The minutes were approved as submitted.

The Treasurer, Jeff Corbett, reported that we had $1246 after presenting the check to Cindy McMullen.

Under new business, President Preston described the Poster Contest and asked if the group was in favor of such a contest. Ed Shelton made a motion that we do have the Poster Contest and that we restrict it to two schools, St Cyprians and Hudson. Tom Gann seconded the motion. Fred Preston is going to contact St Cyprians and Jeff Corbett will contact Hudson. No Americanism Chairman was elected.

President Preston led the assemblage in the SAR Closing Admonition, all in unison and standing.

The meeting was then adjourned. Next meeting to be September 16, 2004.

Fred Preston, acting Secretary
