"In keeping with the educational goals and objectives set out by the National Society, this web site is designed to perpetuate the memory of those who, by their services or sacrifices during the war of the American Revolution, achieved the independence of the American people."
Nathan Gann was a frontiersman from the territory of eastern Tennessee. Many of our countries leaders were located in the same area at the same time in history. For more about Lt. Nathan Gann see his story. Click here for the History of the Chapter.
Any man shall be eligible for membership in the Society who, being of the age of eighteen years or over, and a citizen of good repute in the community, is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who was at all times unfailing in loyalty to, and rendered active service in the cause of American Independence, either as an officer, soldier, seaman, marine, militiaman, in the armed forces of the Continental Congress, or of any of the several Colonies or states; or as a signer of the Declaration of Independence; or as a member of a Committee of Safety or Correspondence; or as a member of any Continental, Provincial, or Colonial Congress or Legislator; or as a recognized patriot who performed actual service by overt acts of resistance to the authority of Great Britain; provided, however, that no person advocating the overthrow of the Government of the United States by use of force or violence shall be eligible for membership in this Society.
Click here for membership information and forms. Send or bring work sheet and copies of your proofs to Fred Preston at Gann Medford. Fred will enter the data into a form filler and print out your application on watermarked paper for submission. The national site has information on what is acceptable proof and what isn't. Also, there is a state official that can provide help via email or phone. If you have a mother, grandmother or great grandmother who was in the DAR, all you need is her application and a few birth certificates showing your relation. Same for your father, grandfather etc. This is the easy way to show proof and become a member. If you are interested and need help, contact me, Fred Preston, and I will either provide help or get you in contact with someone who can. Click here for The Constitution and By Laws.
This is NOT a group of snobbish individuals talking about their distinguished ancestors. For the most part our Revolutionary War ancestors were hard working farmers who took up arms to fight for our independence. The objects of the society are declared to be patriotic, historical and educational, and we seek to perpetuate the memory of our Revolutionary War ancestors.
the SAR Flag which follows the pledge of
allegiance to the United States Flag:
"We the descendants of the heroes of the American Revolution who, by their sacrifices, established the United States of America, reaffirm our faith in the principles of liberty and our Constitutional Republic, and solemnly pledge ourselves to defend them against every foe."
